Summary of House of Flame and Shadow
House of Flame and Shadow is the third book in the Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas. It follows House of Sky and Breath.
At the start of the book, Bryce is not in Midgard, she is in Prythian. Yes, you read that right Prythian! She is somewhere in the night court (Hewn City) and is being interrogated by Rhysand, Amren, Azriel from the ACOTAR Series. The members of night court want answers as to how and why Bryce got to Pyrithian, and whether they should prepare for anyone else arriving. Bryce reluctantly tells them about Aidas, the Asteri especially Rigelus, and that it was not her intention to end up in the night court.
We learn that the Asteri are known by a different name in Prythian. They were known as Daglan and were presumed to have all died centuries ago. Bryce also lets them know that Rigelus considers their land as his enemy number one.

Meanwhile, Hunt Athalar, Ruhn and Baxian are imprisoned by the Asteri.

Writing Style
Who doesn’t love a cross-over! Especially when it’s with one of your favorite book series. Sarah J. Maas brings in characters from the ACOTAR series and we loved every second of it. It was nice to see Bryce go head to head with Nesta. The two characters definitely have something in common in terms of their personalities. It was also nice to see the “master of spinning bullshit” spin it and it not work on Azriel.
The book definitely keeps the story moving. The dialogue, humor, and the characters’ interactions all feel natural and believable.
Memorable Quotes

- “Cassian’s waiting for you, Nesta,” Azriel said—tone gentling. “Take off the Mask.” … “He’s waiting for you at the House of Wind,” Azriel went on. “At home.”
- “Dear Diary, today I made a list of all my enemies and how I plan to kill them. It’s so hard being king I wish I had a friend!—Bryce mocking the contents of the Autumn King’s journal to Morven
