Brad Pitt and Damson Idris movie F1 is set to premier in June, and it got me thinking about racing with speed. Now, I am no formula one driver but I certainly enjoy a few laps of go-karting. Before you judge me, remember Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton began racing karts before they went professional!
In Orlando, my go to go-karting place is Andretti, in Massachusetts, it’s K1 Speed. K1 Speed is an indoor go-kart racing venue. It has a sizeable facility in Wilmington, Massachusetts, which is about 30 minutes drive from Boston.

What It’s Like to Visit K1 Speed
When you walk inside the K1 Speed facility, you will see the registration section. If you have signed up online, then it’s pretty straight forward. You check in. If you arrive with children, then keep in mind that there is a height minimum for the races.

As parents or guardians, please check before you heard out that the children meet the height requirement as this is strictly enforced. Some children get pretty disappointed when they don’t meet the requirement. I know this from personal experience and trust me you do not want to be that parent.

After checking in, you will receive a briefing on rules and safety. You will be given a helmet and an inside sweat cap. Wait to be called as the races are done in groups.
There are two sets of tracks, one for adults and the other for children that meet the height requirement. The karts are electric go-karts with speeds that go up to 45 mph for adults and 20 mph for juniors. They do have remote capabilities and so staff can shut them off for safety reasons.
There is a lounge area where you can relax between races. You can also get some refreshments from the Pit Café, and play some arcade games. The location is actually a great sport for children’s birthday parties or casual outings.

Tips for Visiting K1 Speed
- Plan Ahead: While walk-ins are welcome, it’s advisable to check the facility’s schedule for private events that might affect availability.
- Wear Comfortable Clothing: Closed-toe shoes are required, and comfortable attire is recommended for the best racing experience.
- Age and Height Restrictions: I can’t stress this enough but check the height requirement to avoid disappointment.

Nearby Attractions
You can combine your visit with a trip to some of the nearby attractions including Burlington Mall, where you can grab something to eat and even watch a movie!
You can also visit Woburn Public Library and Minute Man National Historical Park, which is only a short drive away.

Best Time to Visit
If you take a day off during the week, I think it’s best to go then because the crowds are usually less and you have shorter wait times. During winter, naturally there are limited outdoor activities and places to visit, so it tends to be busier.
