The Amateur is a 2025 American espionage action thriller directed by James Hawes. The film is based on Robert Littell’s 1981 novel of the same name, which was previously adapted into a film that same year.
The story follows Charles “Charlie” Heller, a brilliant but introverted CIA cryptographer whose life is upended when his wife, Sarah, is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his superiors refuse to act, Charlie takes matters into his own hands. His mission is to track down those responsible, using his intelligence as his ultimate weapon.
