The Premise
Returning home for Homecoming, Twinkle expected warmth and celebration, but her Diwali homecoming stirs up secrets, arguments, and disputes she never saw coming. In this movie, we watch a typical family overcome their obstacles over the course of a few days in Diwali as many secrets come out in the open and the family, through love and understanding, come to terms with their own lives and struggles. The film portrays the idea that home can be comforting, yet changes, and hard truths may distort this comfort.

Cast and Performance
Ahsaas Channa as Twinkle Handa
Ahsaas Channa plays the role of a young woman who returns home to Delhi from Bangalore for a surprise Diwali visit. Her arrival is the catalyst that exposes the family’s underlying secrets. Twinkle wants to fix some of the problems in her family but in order to do so, she must also face some very uncomfortable truths about her family and herself. She gave a strong performance that made the character’s nostalgia and frustration credible.
Supriya Shukla as Sunita Handa
Supriya Shukla plays Sunita Handa, the loving but quietly strong matriarch of the Handa family. Sunita is a mother whose love is evident even when she fusses over her children. The mother-daughter dynamic between Sunita her daughter Twinkle forms the emotional backbone of the film. Her performance was exceptional and very engaging.
Happy Ranajit as Ranjan Handa
Happy Ranajit is the family’s patriarch. His mysterious past and financial troubles is at the center of the family’s conflict.
Poojan Chhabra as Ankush Handa
He is Twinkle’s younger brother and fondly called Anku by his family. He has a hidden relationship that adds to the family drama. His rebellion and hesitation highlight his struggle between duty and personal desire.
Overall, all the performances work well for a short-format story; the actors convey the familial familiarity and tension convincingly.

What I Liked About The Movie
Greater Kalesh explores that bittersweet feeling of coming home after being away, the comfort of familiarity mixed with the realization that things have changed. It reflects how people grow, relationships shift, and nostalgia sometimes clashes with reality.
I really like how the movie used Diwali lights and warm color tones as it makes you as a viewer feel as though you are a part of the family’s celebration.
At under an hour, Greater Kalesh respects the audience’s time. It delivers a complete, heartfelt story without dragging or feeling rushed. The film captures the everyday chaos, affection, and unspoken tensions that exist within most Indian households. From the teasing between siblings to the mother’s fussing during Diwali prep, the details feel real and lived-in rather than exaggerated for drama.
I loved how Sunita’s children stood by her when they suspected that their father was unfaithful to her. No one told her to endure the pain; instead, they gave her the freedom to walk away from an unhappy marriage.
This film looks at the conflicts and emotional turmoil that can test a family’s relationships. It highlights the idea that real family life is defined by laughter, arguments, and the deep love that binds one together. Ultimately, the story shows how even the biggest chaos can bring a family closer together.
The movie includes a lot of positive messages:
- Being a parent means embracing and loving your child without conditions, even when their flaws or choices don’t align with what society considers normal.
- Surround yourself with friends who speak the truth, even when It is hard to hear. They are the ones who truly care, and there are only a few like them left in the world.”
- Family is what remains when everything else falls apart, so cherish those who love you most. Stand with them in their struggles, because at the end of the day, we are all we have.
- Before you draw conclusions, make sure you know the whole story, because things are not always what they appear to be.
“As a Family we can do whatever we want behind closed doors but in front of outsiders, no matter what happens, we are one”
I also found the movie educational. I did not know that consensual same-sex relationships between adults was legal in India until I watched Greater Kalesh. The Supreme Court decriminalized them in 2018, although same-sex marriage is still not legally recognized.

What Didn’t Work
While the film introduces multiple conflicts such as the property issue and the Anku’s secret relationship, some of these threads were not given enough time to fully unfold. They resolved too easily, leaving viewers wanting more emotional payoff.
The narrative plays it safe, relying on familiar tropes of family misunderstandings. While comforting, it does not surprise or challenge the viewer.
The story is primarily told through Twinkle’s point of view, which works well, but it leaves some secondary characters underdeveloped. It would have been interesting to see more of her parents’ or brother’s inner conflicts.
The resolution felt too tidy. Everyone seems to make peace with one another without much struggle, which slightly weakens the realism the movie built in its first half.

Final Thoughts
Greater Kalesh is a pleasant, warm-hearted film that excels in creating a festive, family-homecoming mood. It adds a progressive twist to the festive family film genre.
The film tackles family dynamics with a feel-good tone and portrays love wrapped in arguments, unspoken emotions. If you are in the mood for something light, emotional, and short, this is definitely a must watch.
Rating
I would rate the movie a 3 out of 5.
