The Night We Met by Abby Jimenez
In everyone’s life, there’s a split-second decision that can change everything …
For Larissa, it came when choosing who to ride home with after a concert. That night, she had no idea she’d met the perfect man. She and Chris are great friends, co-parenting a slightly unhinged rescue Yorkie, sharing their favorite books, and judging bread (pumpernickel for the win!). For the first time amid all her side hustles to scrape by, things finally feel easy.
But she didn’t choose Chris to drive her home all those months ago, she went with his best friend, and he became her boyfriend. All Chris wants is for Larissa to be happy. Standing by on the sidelines is slowly killing him, but making a move would destroy someone else.
How can something that feels so right be absolutely impossible?

“This book is set in the same world as Say You’ll Remember Me. If you recall Mike, Chris, Jessie and Becca are all Xavier’s friends in that book. But this time around, the story focuses on the relationships between Mike, Chris, and a woman named Larrisa.
We enjoyed this story especially because some of the challenges the characters faced relating to their personal finances, felt very real and it was also difficult to see how the story would end. It reminded us of how we felt reading One & Only by Maurene Goo, with the central character somewhat caught in the middle of the affection of two men.
Larissa as a main character is very likeable. These types of storylines are not easy to write because if an author is not careful, you can easily alienate readers through the actions of the characters but we liked how Jimenez handled it.
If you enjoy stories were characters have to deal with the consequences of their actions, then this one is definitely for you.
