Summary

Klara and the Sun follows Klara, an Artificial Friend (AF) with remarkable observational skills, as she waits in a store to be chosen by a human customer.

AFs are displayed in shops, fully conscious but adhering to the store manager’s instructions while hoping to be selected. Their primary purpose is to serve as companions to teenagers. Each day, mothers and children visit the shop and spend time talking to the manger about the different models and personalities.

The book has six chapters. The first part of the story takes place entirely in the shop, located somewhere in the U.S.
