Captain America: The First Avenger is set during World War II, introducing Steve Rogers, a determined but physically frail man who undergoes a transformation to become Captain America.
Main Plot & Characters
At the start of the movie, we meet Steve Rogers. Steve is a patriotic but very petite man. Although he was eager to enlist in the U.S. Army in order to fight in World War II, despite all his efforts, he continued to receive repeated rejections because of his physical attributes. Tired of the rejections, Steve signed up for a secret military experiment, known as the Super Soldier Program. What this program does is to transform regular people into a superhuman soldier.
After the experiment, Steve became known as Captain America. Alongside Peggy Carter and Bucky Barnes, Steve fights to end a group known as Hydra’s tyranny.

Set primarily during World War II, the film was shot in various locations, including Manchester, England, which was used to recreate 1940s Brooklyn.
