The Choral is a 2025 British historical drama film co-produced and directed by Nicholas Hytner and written by Alan Bennett. The movie is set in the fictional Yorkshire town of Ramsden during World War I, the film follows a local choral society struggling as most of its male members enlist for war. With their traditional choir depleted, an unconventional new choirmaster, Dr. Henry Guthrie, recruits singers including teenagers and wounded soldiers to prepare a performance of Edward Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius. Against the backdrop of war and with some tension in community and personal losses, the ensemble highlights the redemptive power of music.
