Cast and Performances
Keira Knightley as Laura Blacklock
Laura, the film’s protagonist, Lo as she was fondly called, is a popular and an award-winning journalist who was traumatized by the murder of a woman who spoke to her about a story she was covering. Keira Knightly does captures the fragility and courage of a woman questioning her sanity yet refusing to back down. Her portrayal feels real and in tune bringing the audience into Lo’s fear, confusion, and determination. The chemistry between her and the rest of the cast, especially in the scenes with disagreement and disputes, really captures your attention as a viewer.
Guy Pearce as Richard Bullmer
Richard is the married to Anne Lyngstad played by Lisa Loven Kongsli, a billionaire who is sick and dying of Cancer. He delivers an intriguing portrayal of Richard Bullmer, the rich and seemingly put together host of the party. He plays the role really well and as a viewer you are left unsure whether to like or fear him.
The appeal he brings masks something gloomier, and his gentleness contrasts sharply with Lo’s unraveling state. Although his screen time feels limited, his presence leaves a quiet restlessness that fits perfectly with the character.
David Ajala as Ben Morgan
Ben is a photo-reporter and at some time he was a significant other to Lo but the relationship went babdly. David gives a steady and grounded performance as Ben Morgan, the photographer trying to make sense of Lo’s predicament. He did however have very limited screen time.
Gitte Witt as Carrie
Gitte Witt brings a captivating personality to her role as Carrie, the mysterious woman Lo believes has vanished from Cabin 10. If you have read the book then you know that Carrie’s character is one that leaves you constantly wondering whether she is a victim, a witness, or something in between. Gitte Witt was able to capture this perfectly and was able to turn a supporting role into something memorable. Carrie’s encounters with Lo are amongst the most gripping in the film. Even in silence, her expressions convey exhaustion, fear and unspoken truths.

What I Liked About The Movie
The best part of this movie has to be how it looks and feels. The Aurora is beautiful but also feels kind of cramped, which makes you tense the whole time and feel like one is trapped inside with Lo.
In terms of the acting, Knightley does not just carry the film; she is the film. Her performance turns what could have been a straightforward “woman in distress” narrative into something very sharp and much more lived-in.
What Didn’t Work
The film has several plot inconsistencies, such as Anne conveniently overhearing Richard’s conspiracy, Laura miraculously surviving freezing waters unscathed, and surprisingly finding everything she needs to survive in a cabin in the woods. The movie occasionally stretches believability, with moments that feel unreal. for instance, Laura moved from her miraculous survival in icy waters to her perfectly styled appearance at the gala.
Rating
I would rate the movie a 4 out of 5.
