New Smyrna Beach

One of my favorite ways to relax is by going to the beach. Any time I visit a new city, I always check to see if there is a beach close by that I can visit. Some of my favorite beach adventures that I have shared are available here.

Today, I want to share my experience visiting New Smyrna Beach or NBS as it is sometimes called.  It is located just about an hour’s drive from Orlando and about 24 minutes if you are driving from Daytona Beach.

What It’s Like to Visit

Now I will say that New Smyrna Beach is located in a small town and so you are immediately drawn to its natural beauty. I loved how soft the sand is and it’s beautiful white sand. Unlike some beaches I have visited in the past, which I equally loved, this one is actually great for swimming, surfing and sunbathing.

Things to do at New Smyrna Beach

One of the first things I noticed where the life guards. I think somewhere in my subconscious I have gotten used to visiting beaches that do not have designated life guards. This beach has that it was really good to see it.

In terms of the vibe around the beach, it’s a relaxed setting. Like most beaches people are doing their own thing. There are shacks and families enjoying their day by the ocean. Looking around you will see people walking their dogs, surfers, and beachgoers like me!

You can literally unload your items and setup your spot without having to worry about dragging your bags, coolers, chairs, umbrellas and all.  I am not used to seeing this at other beaches, so I quickly took some photos to share here.
Flagler Avenue
  • Walk or Bike Flagler Avenue: Before getting to this beach, I had googled New Smyrna Beach to see some things I can do and places I visit and eat, and Flagler Avenue kept coming up. When I arrived at NBS, I quickly asked for directions to Flagler Avenue. This is where most of the boutiques, cafes, beach bars, and art galleries are located. It is great for getting your steps in.
